Florida woman flight instructor safely lands an aircraft on busy Interstate 10 after engine trouble, then tells drivers, "My fault for the traffic guys"

A 21-year-old Florida flight instructor is being hailed as a hero after safely landing a single-engine aircraft on busy Interstate 10 near Pensacola when an in-flight engine emergency left her with no chance of returning to the airport. Emily Shelton was conducting a training flight with a student on August 4, 2026, when the aircraft developed serious engine trouble, including critically low oil pressure and oil fumes inside the cockpit. Realising the plane could not safely continue, Shelton declared an emergency and calmly guided the aircraft onto the interstate, narrowly missing moving traffic and an overhead road sign. The dramatic landing ended without injuries and later went viral after Shelton jokingly apologised to drivers on TikTok, writing, "My fault for the traffic guys."
