A 24-year-old Florida woman, Haley Blunt, was arrested by Lake City Police on charges of burglary, criminal mischief, and child neglect after a disturbing incident in a residential neighborhood.
The incident unfolded when officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a home on NW Huntsboro Street. The victim reported that an unknown person, later identified as Blunt, knocked on the front door but refused to identify herself. Blunt then proceeded to break a window near the front door and entered the home while the victim was on the phone with 911 dispatch.
Upon police arrival, they found Blunt inside the home, naked and bleeding from injuries sustained during the break-in. She was promptly taken to a local hospital for treatment before being released and booked into the Columbia County Jail without bond.
Further investigation revealed that Blunt had left her two young children unsupervised at her own home while she carried out the break-in at her neighbor's residence. As a result, she also faces a child neglect charge.
Fortunately, the children were found unharmed and were later placed in the care of a family member. The shocking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible parenting and the consequences of criminal behavior.
