Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz has become the first Democrat to join the caucus supporting President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, indicating potential bipartisan support for efforts to streamline the federal government.
Moskowitz aims to focus on making the Secret Service and FEMA independent federal agencies that report directly to the White House. His decision to support DOGE is not an isolated one, as Sen. Bernie Sanders, an Independent from Vermont who caucuses with the Democrats, has also expressed his backing for efforts to revamp spending at the Pentagon.
These instances of Democratic support for DOGE, spearheaded by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, hint at the possibility of rare bipartisan collaborations among unlikely allies in Congress.
Rep. Moskowitz will be part of a caucus led by GOP Rep. Aaron Bean of Florida and Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas. Additionally, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene will chair an Oversight subcommittee dedicated to collaborating with DOGE, separate from the main caucus.
Musk and Ramaswamy are scheduled to address Republican House and Senate members on Thursday afternoon, as confirmed by a notice from Speaker Mike Johnson’s office on Tuesday.
