Most of Florida is under an extreme heat warning, heat watch, or heat advisory this week, with forecast heat indices reaching 115 degrees, and the state has already set records.
Tampa recorded an actual air temperature of 100 degrees on July 27, the hottest reading since the city began keeping records in 1890. The following day its heat index reached 118, tying a mark set in August 2000, according to National Weather Service Tampa Bay meteorologist Stephen Shiveley.
