Florida has dismissed defensive lineman Brenton Cox Jr. from the football team, head coach Billy Napier confirmed to the media Monday.
Napier didn’t get into specifics, but did note that it wasn’t a singular event that led to the decision to remove Cox from the team (via The Alligator):
“We’ve kind of decided to move on here,” Napier said. “Being a football player at the University of Florida is a privilege, there’s certain expectations and standards that come with that.”
“I don’t know if we’d get specific relative to what caused the decision,” Napier said. “I think it’s more of a cumulative effect here.”
Regarded by many as a potential top prospect in the 2023 NFL draft class, this could obviously have a huge impact on Cox’s draft stock looking ahead to the offseason.
