The Florida Department of Corrections has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of inmates and staff ahead of Hurricane Milton's expected landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast. As part of their preparations, the department has successfully relocated 4,636 inmates to secure locations without compromising public safety.

According to the department's website, additional evacuations are currently underway to further safeguard the well-being of those in their care. In light of the approaching storm, visitations at various FDC facilities have been canceled to prioritize the safety of all individuals involved.

The decision to evacuate inmates is made with careful consideration for the best interest of the public, staff, and inmate safety. However, the department does not publicly announce these evacuations until after the relocation process has been completed to ensure a smooth and secure transition.

As Hurricane Milton approaches, the Florida Department of Corrections remains vigilant in its efforts to protect those under its supervision. By implementing these precautionary measures, the department aims to minimize any potential risks and maintain a safe environment for all individuals involved.
