Nearly 95,000 Florida Democrats switched their voter registration to the Republican Party over the past two years, while fewer than 40,000 Republicans made the opposite move, according to a Miami Herald analysis of state election records ahead of November's midterms.
The shift has contributed to a nearly eight-percentage-point Republican registration advantage statewide, with Republicans accounting for approximately 39% of registered voters and Democrats 31%. The GOP expanded its lead in all 67 Florida counties between September 2024 and September 2026.
