A Florida appeals court has overturned an order requiring a man to pay his former wife $2,675.87 per month in financial support after a marriage that lasted just 249 days. In its decision, Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal ruled that the trial court made a mistake by ordering nine months of temporary alimony without enough evidence to show how long the former wife would need financial help. The case, Syed Imran Ali v. Saba Shoukat, began in the Circuit Court for Marion County under Circuit Judge Jennifer Bass. After a trial, the court ended the short marriage, which had produced no children. However, the judge ordered Ali to pay Shoukat $2,675.87 each month to cover what the court called her “legitimate identifiable short-term needs” as she moved towards supporting herself.
