Flooding still in 27 provinces

Twenty-seven provinces in the northern half of the country are still reporting flooding caused by runoff and overflowing watercourses following widespread rain, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Tuesday.

During  the period Sept 28-Oct 11, flooding hit a total of 54 provinces, affecting 240,066 households in 71,344 villages of 262 districts.

The situation had eased, but parts of 27 provinces were still flooded, the deprtment said. They are:

• Tak, Phetchabun, Phichit and Nakhon Sawan in the North, affecting 19,674 households in 19 districts;
• Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Roi-Et, Yasothon, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani in the Northeast, affecting 40,280 households in 59 districts;
• Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Lop Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Nayok, Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi in the Central, affecting 84,076 households in 48 districts; and
• Prachin Buri in the East, affecting 250 villages with 12,210 households in six districts.

Disaster prevention and mitigation offices in flood-hit provinces had coordinated work with local administrations and other agencies to drain water from the flooded areas and provide assistance to affected people.

Officials were assessing damage in order to distribute compensation to those in need, in line with the Ministry of Finance's regulations.
