NARATHIWAT: Floodwater in riverside communities rose to a metre deep and a police station was inundated on Monday when the Kolok River breached a flood barrier after monsoon rains pounded southern provinces.
Muno police station in tambon Muno of Sungai Kolok district was flooded, swamping vehicles in the car park, as were residents' houses.
The water level in the tambon was up to one metre deep after the rain swollen Kolok River overwhelmed a flood barrier and spilled through the communities.
Runoff from nearby hills added to the problem.
Narathiwat was hit the hardest by the heavy rain that has triggered floods in southern provinces along the Gulf of Thailand coastline since Friday.
All 13 districts in Narathiwat were deluged on Sunday and eight of them remained flooded on Monday, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported.
The Meteorological Department predicted scattered rainfall this week from Surat Thani south to Narathiwat, with a 30% chance of rain in most areas.
