There is one flood warning and dozens of flood alerts in place across Wales on Thursday morning after heavy downpours. Heavy rain is forecast for several days in Wales and it is having an impact on the nation's rivers with concerns about the risk of flooding across the nation. As of 8am there were 26 alerts and one flood warning issued for Wales.
Natural Resources Wales' warning system lets people know the level of concern. Flood warnings indicate that flooding is expected and immediate action is required. Flood alerts are less severe and mean that flooding is possible and people should be prepared. Both cover major waterways such as rivers. The current alerts for Wales cover the majority of the country other than the west coast.
After rain on Thursday and Friday, the forecast looks set to be drier over the New Year weekend but the Met Office has warned temperatures could drop. The forecaster says the jet stream is forcing cold air that has been blasting parts of the USA across the Atlantic to the UK.
