Four flood alerts have been issued for rivers in Nottinghamshire. The flood alerts say flooding is possible near the waterways, with persistent heavy rainfall expected to fall from the evening of Wednesday, November 16 through to Thursday, November 17 afternoon.
The areas at risk are the River Maun, the River Trent tributaries, River Leen, Day Brook and Tottle Brook and River Erewash tributaries. The Government's 'check for flooding' site states the areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land, footpaths and roads.
They have asked people to avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. They added the situation would be closely monitored.
A flood alert is the lowest level of warning issued, escalating to a flood warning or severe flood warning if necessary. Where flood alerts are issued, those near affected areas should prepare a bag that includes medicines and insurance documents and check flood warnings.
A Government list also suggests residents should check how to turn off your gas, electricity and water mains supplies and plan how to move family and pets to safety. They also advise people to date with the latest flood risk situation by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or following @EnvAgency and #floodaware on Twitter.
