A number of flood alerts remain in place for Greater Manchester following a huge thunderstorm.
The thunderstorm yesterday (Sunday) brought 'monsoon rain' to our region and caused roads to become flooded, delays on public transport and even left an elderly woman stranded in her house. And though weather conditions appear brighter this morning, forecasters predict more rain will hit later today.
The Environment Agency issued multiple flood alerts yesterday 'pre-emptively' ahead of the thunderstorm, and ahead of further rainfall today. Five alerts remain in place.

These are for the Upper River Irwell catchment with Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale, Haslingden, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall, the Lower River Irwell catchment including areas in Greater Manchester, the Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston, the River Glaze catchment including Leigh and East Wigan and the River Mersey Uplands catchment including Hyde, Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Stalybridge and Glossop.
In these areas, people who live near the rivers should 'be prepared' for flooding as water levels could rise 'rapidly'. The Environment Agency said areas most at risk are 'low lying agricultural land, roads and footpaths close to small rivers and streams'.
According to the Met Office, more rain could hit our region from around 11am. Further thunderstorms are forecast for some parts of Greater Manchester from around lunchtime.
Forecasters predict some light showers to continue into the afternoon, before conditions turn brighter into the early evening. Temperatures will climb to around 23C.
Yesterday, flash floods caused roads around the region to become flooded, as drivers waded through water on submerged streets. An elderly woman, whose house was flooded on Water Street in Radcliffe, was rescued by fire crews as the road was blocked off, with residents reporting a wave of 'monsoon'-like rain.
In the second thunderstorm in less than 24 hours, the Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning across the UK on Sunday evening, with the previous sunny and clear conditions giving way to the thunder, rain and lightning.
Earlier in the day, trams were already severely delayed across numerous lines, with others totally suspended, after lightning struck and caused technical issues to the Metrolink network. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) then announced on Sunday evening that a tree had fallen down onto the tracks on the Bury line, meaning services were part suspended for a number of hours.
This followed on from another storm in Manchester in the early hours of Sunday. Incredible video footage showed the moment the dramatic thunderstorm rolled in, with rumbling thunder and flashes of lightning at around 2am.
