Festivals and special events have brought Canberrans together since our earliest days. From Floriade to the Multiculti, from Summernats to Sundays in the Park, when people come together we've been there to share the moment.
And there was no bigger time for community events than the 1980s, when the Birdman Rally and Food and Wine Frolic were in their prime.
Or the 1970s, when we would crown the likes of Dennis Lillee the "King of Canberra" or the winner of the "Miss Lake Burley Griffin" beauty competition.
Events of their time, certainly, but wouldn't it be good to pack the city centre or the lake once again for some of this kind of fun?
As we mark our centenary with a daily dive into our photo archives, enjoy this return to the events that bound our city together. And share memories of your favourite events in the comments below.
