A flight bringing holidaymakers back to Manchester from Cuba was forced to divert this morning (Friday) after a medical emergency on board.
TUI flight TOM135 had left Varadero airport on the Carribean island just after 9pm last night (Central Standard Time) and was several hours into its journey when a passenger fell ill.
As a result, the flight was diverted to Halifax Stanfield airport in Nova Scotia on Canada's east coast where it landed just after 3am (Atlantic Standard Time) this morning.
The Manchester Evening News understands the affected passenger was offloaded and that the plane spent an hour on the ground in Canada before taking off heading for Manchester where it is due to land just after 1pm this afternoon.
In a statement, the company said: " “Flight TOM135 from Varadero, Cuba to Manchester Airport was diverted to Halifax, Canada this morning due to a medical emergency onboard.
"As this is a medical matter regarding one passenger, it would be inappropriate to comment further. The flight is back en route to Manchester as planned.”
