A map from the Met Office website shows rainfall of up to 32mm making its way across County Durham and parts of Teesside on Thursday evening. There is the added potential for flooding in the Seaton Carew area of Hartlepool.
The Met Office has said evening showers will eventually die out. There will be areas of heavy showers over central England moving into parts of the North East and southern Scotland.
On Friday, it will be rather cloudy with scattered showers, heavy and thundery in places, with the added risk of hail. These will clear during the afternoon, with sunny spells following.
