Krieng: Entered parliament in 1995

Krieng Kalptinan, a former deputy interior minister and five-time MP for Ubon Ratchathani, died peacefully on Tuesday at Vichaiyut Hospital after battling cancer. He was 74.

Born in Ubon Ratchathani, Mr Krieng was married to Rojana Kalptinan, a former mayor of Ubon Ratchathani Municipality. They had three children.

Krieng earned a bachelor's degree in arts and a master's degree in educational administration from Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University.

He entered parliament in 1995 as a Democrat MP for Ubon Ratchathani's Constituency 1, defeating influential local figure Chaisiri Ruangkanchanaset.

He later joined the Pheu Thai Party and served several terms as an MP and deputy interior minister.
