For many children who can’t live with their parents, foster carers provide a stable, safe and supportive home that helps them thrive. Approximately 82,000 children in England are in care, but the number of foster carers has fallen by 12% since 2019.
One of the biggest barriers to more people considering fostering is the widespread misconceptions about what it’s really like. Research by the Fostering Network found that more than a third (39%) of fostering services feel media stereotypes have negatively impacted people’s belief they could be a suitable fit for a fostering role.
