- Sir Keir Starmer said he would visit Golders Green “as soon as possible” following the “appalling attack” which saw two Jewish men stabbed.
- The prime minister acknowledged the attack was the latest in a string of antisemitic incidents, saying it “is not an isolated incident”.
- Sir Keir said the government would deal with “the root causes of extremism and antisemitism” and is meeting with criminal justice agencies on Thursday “to make sure that we have effective and swift justice in these cases”.
- He said that there is a need “to recognise the levels of anxiety and concern”, with people in the Jewish comminity “feeling very much exposed and vulnerable, feeling they’ve got to hide their identity, sometimes in the health service, sometimes at school, on the streets where they live”.
- Starmer added that its government’s job “to make sure that they feel safe and secure” and reiterated the need to “take measures to deal with malign state actors”.
