Four children in hospital after being hit by school bus

Five children and a bus driver were injured following a crash in Powys on Monday afternoon. Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the road traffic collision, involving a school bus and a number of young pedestrians, occurred in the town of Llanfair Caereinion near Welshpool, Powys.

Emergency services attended the scene around 3.26pm. The male driver of the bus and four children were taken to hospital with three of the children airlifted to hospital. There were no passengers on the bus at the time.

School Lane – which is just off Neuadd Lane in the town and is where the incident took place – remained closed on Monday evening with diversions in place. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible.

Emergency services have been in attendance. Officers from the council’s school service are currently in the town providing support to both the high school and primary school."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said they were called to the incident shortly before 3.30pm and added: "Three of the five children were flown to hospital for treatment while another child and an adult were taken to hospital by land ambulance. The remaining child was discharged at the scene."
