Manchester United supporters are optimistic of an improvement from dead-ball situations this season after scoring via a corner in Sunday afternoon's Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion.
After finding themselves 2-0 down at half-time, courtesy of a Pascal Gross double, United, in their first game of the Erik ten Hag era, reduced the deficit just past the midway point of the second half. Bruno Fernandes whipped in a corner from the right flank, attempting to find someone in red, only to see Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez flap at his delivery, allowing Diogo Dalot to poke the ball goalwards.
Sanchez attempted to claw it off the line, but it bounced off Alexis Mac Allister and went into the back of the net, giving United hope of rescuing something from the game. It was a scrappy goal that summed up United's performance, but the fact that they had scored via a corner, following last season's struggles to score from such situations, was a moment of pleasure.
