First post-pandemic Northumberland days out guide and map launched by tourist board

With superb beaches, the UK's favourite national park, and a coastline dotted with castles, Northumbrians know that there are few better places to spend a day out than their home county.

However, visitors are still coming to learn just how much of an incredible destination Northumberland is. And a new guide and map launched by Northumberland's official tourist board is hoping to offer some suggestions on how visitors can make the most of their stay in the county.

Visit Northumberland's new Days Out leaflet aims to encourage visitors to dwell longer and experience more in 2022, with more than 50 activities, attractions, events and places to eat and drinks, shop and stay included. A total of 150,000 copies have been set for distribution across the county, intended to support its ambition to return tourism to pre- Covid levels - in 2019 the sector brought in £1.04bn and directly employed more than 13,000 people.

Also included are some of the county's most popular outdoor landscapes and destinations such as Kielder Water and Forest Park, Northumberland National Park, the Northumberland Coast AONB and North Pennines AONB. The new leaflet follows the reopening of two of the county's coastal Tourist Information Centres in Seahouses and Craster, which will be open seven days a week until the end of October, alongside the year-round operation at Morpeth Chantry and network of information points in the county's libraries.

Maureen McAllister, head of tourism at Visit Northumberland, said: "With the 2022 holiday season upon us, now is the perfect time to launch this leaflet and reopen our important visitor information sites to inspire visitors to enjoy great days out in Northumberland. The county is full of fantastic places to visit and breath-taking scenery, and we are pleased we have been able to work with our tourism partners and businesses to produce this leaflet.

"Tourism is extremely valuable to Northumberland, we continue to rebuild following the impact of the pandemic and we are working to build the profile of the destination, attract new visitors and encourage them to see and do more while in Northumberland. We look forward to welcoming visitors to the county in 2022 and beyond."

Locations and contact details of Northumberland Tourist Information centres can be found on the Visit Northumberland website.
