A man who died following an 'incident' at an Aberdeen house has been named locally as Henry Hanratty Stephen.
Emergency services rushed to Rosehill Crescent at around 10.45pm on Saturday, May 27, and 39-year-old Henry, known as Hugo, was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
He tragically died in hospital a short time later. Tributes have poured in for dad Hugo after news of his passing emerged online.
His partner Tia Louise changed her Facebook profile picture to one of the couple and wrote: " You’ll always have my heart. I love you."
Wendy Smith said: "Such a shame thinking of his family at this sad time what’s the world coming to."
Emma Stephen added: "Rest in paradise. He was an absolute pleasure to have known you. GBNF."
Lisa Marie posted: "RIP. What a toff of a guy. You bought me my first ever bottle of big beasty back in the days and I will not forget how u and Nugs were there to help back in the days. My thoughts are with all your loved ones at this sad time."
Forensics officers were seen scouring the area whilst investigations were carried out.
A 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman have now been charged with assault to danger of life in connection with Hugo's death.
They appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today and made no plea or declaration. They will appear again within the next eight days.
Police Scotland confirmed the incident has also been referred to the Police Investigation and Review Commissioner (PIRC).
A PIRC spokesperson said: “We have been directed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to investigate the circumstances of the death of a 39-year-old man following an incident involving police in Aberdeen on 27 May 2023.
"Once the investigation is concluded, a report on our findings will be submitted to the COPFS for consideration.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.45pm on Saturday, 27 May, 2023, police received a report of concern for a 39-year-old man within a property on Rosehill Crescent in Aberdeen.
“The man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.
"His next of kin have been informed.
“A 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman have been arrested and charged in connection with an assault and enquiries are ongoing.
"Both are due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday, 29 May, 2023.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
“The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and the Police Investigation and Review Commissioner (PIRC) have been informed and it would therefore be inappropriate to comment further.”
