A 63-year-old man who died 17 days after being brutally attacked on his doorstep by three men posing as Border Agency officials has been named by police. Martin Truett was assaulted during the suspected botched robbery when he opened his door to the trio of thugs in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on November 25.
Emergency services were called after Mr Truett was attacked outside his home in Highfield Road by the men - including one who was armed with a screwdriver. He was taken to hospital where he sadly died on December 12 prompting detectives to launch a murder investigation.
Police say Mr Truett had answered the door to three males wearing black, who claimed to be from the Border Agency, sometime between 8.45pm and 10pm. So far no arrests have been made and Northamptonshire Police is now appealing for any witnesses or those with information to get in touch.
Detective Chief Inspector Adam Pendlebury, said: “We are still very keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed three people in the area at the time of this attack knocking on doors, or any other suspicious activity. I would continue to urge everyone in the local area to review any CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage they might have which could help our investigation.
"No matter how small you think it is, let us know about it so we can review it. Martin and his family deserve justice and any piece of information that people can provide us with in order to get us closer to that would be invaluable.”
Anyone with information can call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
