First picture of man, 32, 'excited about getting married' who died after Liverpool Street Tube assault

Thomas Jewitt, 32, died on September 1 - (British Transport Police)

A young man who died after an assault as he returned from Notting Hill Carnival has been named by police.

Thomas Jewitt, 32, was attacked on a Central line platform at Liverpool Street Station while travelling home from the event on Sunday, August 30.

Emergency services were called to the station shortly before 11pm. The victim was rushed to hospital but sadly died two days later surrounded by his family.

In a statement issued by British Transport Police (BTP), the family said: “We can’t believe that Tom has been taken from us. Tom was fun-loving, caring and kind.

“He always looked out for others, and made them feel better.

“He had a successful career in affordable housing, and a bright future that was taken away from him too soon. He was excited about marrying his fiancée next year.

“Tom is deeply loved by his family, his many, many friends, and his work colleagues. We will draw what strength we can from the wonderful memories we have of Tom.”

Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Drydock Square, Barking, has been charged in connection with the incident.

News of Mr Jewitt’s death came as police revealed more than 630 people were arrested at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival.

Some 242 arrests took place on Sunday, which is Families Day, and 394 on Monday, which is reserved for adults.

Witnesses or anyone with information can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 799 of 30 August. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
