First picture emerges of dad-of-one shot dead outside his Clondalkin home

This is the man who was shot dead outside his home in Clondalkin last night.

Cormac Berkeley, who was in his 30s, was shot multiple times outside his home at Harelawn Park after 9pm last night. Locals say Mr Berkeley was a father of one, and was originally from Tallaght, but had been living in the area for some time.

One local told this paper how they heard the gunshots: "I heard about six or seven gunshots. I knew straight away what it was. It’s absolutely shocking that this can happen on your own doorstep.”

The victim was gunned down in the neck and legs in what gardai believe was a targeted gangland shooting. Officers suspect the victim, who was known to gardai, was targeted as part of an ongoing dispute in the west Dublin area.

Mr Berkeley is understood to have previously been warned of a threat to his life. It is understood his home was previously targeted in an attack, and that he had been warned about a drug debt.

His body was removed from the scene shortly after 11am on Tuesday. Distraught family members and friends were seen at the scene being comforted.

Forensic officers are still at the scene, which is sealed off and has a tent and a screen erected inside. Blood can be seen on the outer wall of the premises where the deceased was killed.

Gardai are now set to launch a full murder investigation. The incident is understood not to be in any way connected to the other shooting incident which occurred in Finglas last night.
