Children and teens with Ewing sarcoma now have their own national treatment roadmap. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network has published its first-ever guidelines for pediatric bone sarcoma, and the central recommendation is that every young patient be evaluated by a team of specialists rather than a single doctor.
The guidelines focus on Ewing sarcoma and other undifferentiated round cell sarcomas. Ewing sarcoma is the second most common primary bone tumor in children and adolescents and typically affects teens ages 15 to 19, according to The ASCO Post, which reported the release on Oct. 7. NCCN published the guidelines Oct. 1, and they are free online.
