First look inside Edinburgh's suave street food market near St James Quarter

Edinburgh's first permanent seven-day-a-week street food market has opened next to the Omni Centre and one food blogger has captured their first experience of the hotly anticipated venue.

The new market is set over a 900m2 corner of Edinburgh’s Omni Centre which has been transformed it into an exciting food paradise, extending out onto the pavement with a 250-seater urban garden.

With overhead cover, outside heaters and Calton Hill forming the backdrop, Edinburgh Street Food offers an all-weather casual dining space.

A suave pink sign is outside the food market and there are a number of favourites such as Bundits and Junk inside serving up delicious dishes.

The food spot has both indoor and outdoor seating with heated lamps. Inside it is bright, vibrant and bursting with energy.

It is a very Instagramable location and with so many options on offer, there is a cuisine to suit everyone.

The diner looked packed in the video clip with dozens of Edinburgh locals coming to try it out just days after opening.

The Edinburgh Street Food line-up includes -

  1. Junk: Fine dining reimagined by 2023 UK & European Street Food winners.

  2. Bundits: The Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Restaurant Awards 2022, with their East Asian fusion fluffy Hirata bao.

  3. Chix: Succulent gourmet fried chicken experts.

  4. What Le Duck: A new brand by Edinburgh Street Food vendor which promises quintessentially French confit duck with a Scottish twist.

  5. Antojitos: Scotland’s 2022 Street Food winners bringing bucket loads of flavour via plant-based Mexican food.

  6. The Peruvian: Offering top Peruvian cuisine including tequeños and lomo saltado.

  7. House of Tapas: Authentic Spanish fare.

  9. Fabbrica: Purveyor of fresh pasta and fried Italian street food delights.

  10. SoftCore: A new highly Instagrammable hand-crafted soft serve concept that’ll boast warm cookies, candy floss, sundaes and all things sweet.

The market will open at Greenside Place at Leith Street on February 25 running Sunday until Thursday 11 am - 11 pm and Friday to Saturday 11 am - 1 am.
