First look at the new Ninja Speedi air fryer that cooks a healthy meal in 15 minutes

The hotly anticipated Ninja Speedi can steam, air fry and be used as a convection oven to create healthy meals in 15 minutes but is it worth the £250 price tag?

We got a sneak preview at a special launch event for the Ninja Speedi to see if it lives up to expectations. The game-changing device was designed and developed by the British team behind the brand, which has become well-known for its cutting edge air fryers.

The Ninja Speedi is a rapid cooker aimed at time-poor professionals from who want to eat healthily but don't want to spend their weeknights prepping and then cleaning up complicated meals. The £249.99 product allows you to make a one-pot meal with a carbohydrate and protein, cooked in just 15 minutes.

In a demo at their cooking lab, designers behind the product, and QVC guest presenter Gail Samways showed us how you could stir together dry pasta, broccoli, crème fraiche, mustard and stock in the bottom of the pot, put a small trivet on top and add a chicken breast stuffed with cheese and then cook without oil for 15 minutes. The result was a crispy but moist piece of chicken and then cooked pasta in sauce.

During the demonstration the team explained how, during the design process, staff from across the company were given the chance to test the new product in the in-house kitchen, with people from the 130-strong work force successfully inventing combinations including rice, pasta, bulgur wheat and couscous in the bottom and a range of meat, fish and vegetables in the top. The Speedi has also been used to make tray bakes and cakes and even as a sauté pan to brown things off before slow cooking.

There is also a cookbook of ideas included to get shoppers started when they buy it. The Speedi launched briefly earlier this month but sold out almost immediately and has come back in stock today on Ninja's website.

Meanwhile, home shopping channel QVC will be launching sales - and showing demonstrations of the ground-breaking product - in action from later this month.

Speaking at the launch, SharkNinja's Chief Commercial Officer Neil Shah said the Speedi was the latest in a line of ground-breaking products for the brand. He added: "Shark Ninja has never chased a trend. We’ve always identified consumers’ problems and then helped customers live a healthier, simpler and easier life and, as a result of that, we continue to create trends that will be game changing for the UK market.”

The firm's Chief Innovation Officer, James Braithwaite added: "As a company we've had a lot of successful products over the last 14 years and we’ve been good at being ready for the next product. We’re proud of our air fryer but we’re looking to what’s next. We're giving an air fryer more functionality like the Speedi - who’d have thought of making rice in an air fryer? We’re not just the air fryer company of 2022/2023. We’ll be the company into 2024 and beyond."
