An Indianapolis mother has made the decision to pull her first-grader from school after a troubling incident during a recent field trip. The 6-year-old girl, Cianni, was left behind at an apple orchard following a field trip to Tuttle Orchards in Greenfield, Indiana, with her charter school, Christel House West Academy.
The mother, Dearra Allen, received a call informing her that her daughter had been left behind at the orchard. Allen immediately sprang into action, rushing to the school to find out what had happened. Cianni's teacher claimed to have done a headcount before leaving the field trip location, but Allen disputed this, stating that if the headcount had been accurate, her daughter would not have been left behind.
Cianni recounted that she was left behind because her chaperone, one of her classmate's dads, failed to call her name during the trip. She eventually realized she was alone and sought help from a stranger at the orchard, who then took her to an office until her principal retrieved her.
