First DWP Cost of Living payment date as millions will miss out

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will soon roll out the first round of its Cost of Living payments which could reach £1,350 for some people.

The DWP said more than eight million families in the UK on means-tested benefits will automatically receive the first payment of £301 this spring. Meanwhile, more than 6.5 million people on disability benefits will receive an extra £150 this summer.

Across 2023/24, five Cost of Living payments will be handed out to vulnerable households, including pensioners and those with disabilities, the MEN reports.

According to the DWP, the payment timetable is as follows:

  • £301 – First 2023/24 Cost of Living Payment – during Spring 2023
  • £150 – 2023 Disability Payment – during Summer 2023
  • £300 – Second 2023/24 Cost of Living Payment – during Autumn 2023
  • £300 – 2023 Pensioner Payment – during Winter 2023/4
  • £299 – Third 2023/24 Cost of Living Payment – during Spring 2024

But not everyone on DWP benefits is entitled to the cash - millions of people are set to miss out on Cost of Living payments this spring.

Carer's Allowance has been excluded from the list of qualifying benefits for the government's second cash boost, meaning unpaid carers in the UK are missing out on much-needed financial support. There are 10.6m people in the UK who care for vulnerable relatives or friends, who are set to miss out on the money.

Carer’s Allowance is set to rise from £69.70 per week to £75.74 (around £302 per month), but this benefit is not included in the list of qualifying benefits for the cost of living payment, meaning unpaid carers will miss out on the second payment of up to £900.
