First Dates Ireland waiter Pete reveals it was love at first swipe after proposing to 'girl of dreams'

First Dates Ireland’s waiter Pete Ungless revealed it was love at first swipe when he found the girl of his dreams on a dating app last year.

Pete joined the RTE show in 2018 during its third season and quickly cemented himself as a favourite among viewers.

And the 33-year-old left fans swooning this season, as it was announced that he found love himself and got engaged last year.

Lifting the lid on how he came to meet the special lady in his life, Megan, a registered Irish nurse from Tallaght, the Dublin based waiter said: “It’s kind of a weird serendipity thing that happened with us.

“We actually met on Tinder and I just happened to be out, I think it was for my birthday, i just happened to be out in a restaurant across the bar that she was in and we crossed paths and it was kind of like ‘oh I think i know you’ and all of these mad coincidences that happened and then we ended up going on our first date and things just went from there.”

But the TV personality, who is originally from the UK, just outside Brighton, said it wasn’t long before he knew she was the one.

Popping the question on their first anniversary last September, he said: “Oh absolutely, it was our first anniversary but even months before that I knew this is the girl of my dreams and who I want to spend my life with.

“She’s an absolute ray of sunshine to everyone she meets.”

“So I actually popped the big question on the 9th of September, which was our first anniversary which was lovely. And then we celebrated that between our friends and our families.”

The happy couple had double celebrations when Pete’s bosses decided to share the news with fans at home during the credits of the TV show in a recent episode.

The announcement came after Pete mentioned during the episode that he was happily loved up and living with his girlfriend.

“It kind of came around, I was having a conversation with one of the daters and kind of just the topic of my engagement came up,” he recalled.

“And we had a good chat about it and they ended up using that in the show and then the guys contacted me saying ‘it would be really nice if we could try to tie the whole thing together with an announcement at the end would you be okay with that’ and of course we would only be delighted to share that with everybody.”

He added: “It was lovely because we kind of had a second celebration then you know because we got lovely feedback from it.”

The busy general manager of Dublin cafes Pog, who has been living in the capital for 10 years, said he is in no rush to plan the big day just yet.

But he teased his First Dates family will be front and centre whenever it comes around.

“We are enjoying the engagement and having that time to chill so nothing yet, maybe next year we will get a plan of action in.

“A First Dates Wedding,” he added laughing.

First Dates Ireland airs Thursdays 9:30 pm on RTÉ2 & RTÉ Player.
