First couple eliminated from Strictly after Movie Week dance falls flats

  • Celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton has become the first contestant to be eliminated from the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing .
  • Appleton and his professional partner Amy Dowden landed in the bottom two alongside actress Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu following Movie Week.
  • Both couples performed a cha-cha-cha in the dance-off, but judges Shirley Ballas , Motsi Mabuse , and Anton Du Beke unanimously voted to save Winstone and Gu.
  • Craig Revel Horwood confirmed he would have also voted to save Winstone, sealing Appleton's departure.
  • Appleton had scored 16 for his week one tango and 17 for his Movie Week cha-cha-cha to “I'll Be Ready” from Baywatch before leaving the competition.
