Two invigilators were suspended in Yadgir district for dereliction of duty, and one student was debarred for malpractice in Vijayapura district on the first day of the first annual examination of class 10 (SSLC) on Monday.
The suspended invigilators are Sahebagowda Ukkali, an assistant teacher working as an invigilator at Government Junior College (Boys) examination centre, Hunasagi of Surapura taluk, and Hanamantraya, an assistant teacher posted as an invigilator at Government Junior College (Boys) examination centre, Surapura.
They were allegedly allowing students to copy in the examination hall and were suspended with immediate effect by the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), Yadgir. But no students were debarred.
The first language Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, English, and Sanskrit exams for class 10 were held across the State on Monday. The Karnataka State Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB), which decided to conduct the class 10 examinations under CCTV surveillance this year, has taken steps to webcast the examination process for the first time.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zilla Panchyat of Yadgir was watching the webcast in his office and found that students were copying in room 5 of the Government Junior College (Boys) examination centre, Surapura, and room 11 of the Government Junior College (Boys) examination centre, Hunsagi.
However, the invigilators did not take any action despite the mass copying, nor was it brought to the attention of the chief of the examination centre. As a result, the CEO of Zilla Panchyat of Yadgir directed action to be taken against the guilty teachers.
Apart from this, the examination was conducted smoothly in 2,750 examination centres with 98.41% attendance. Of the 8,45,811 students who registered for the first language examination, 8,32,343 were present, and 13,468 were absent.
Students were happy with the first day of the examination and felt that the Kannada examination was easy. Ritesh, a class 10 student from Bengaluru, said, “This year’s Kannada examination was very easy, and I wrote well.”
This time, students have been made to sit facing the wall to avoid disruptions. A radius of 200 metres around the examination centres has been declared a prohibited area when the examination is taking place.
Karnataka State Road Corporation, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, and other public transport corporations have provided free bus service for the students.
Along with this, the KSEAB resumed the halted board exams (Summative Assessment-2) for classes 5, 8, and 9 in the afternoon. Environmental Studies for class 5 and third language exams were held for classes 8 and 9.
