A haul of fireworks was seized from the boot of a car in Newcastle during a clampdown on illegal sales ahead of Bonfire Night.
Trading Standards officers from Newcastle City Council seized 136 rockets and roman candles in a series of visits across the city on Tuesday after carrying out test purchases. A test purchase is when officers employ an underage customer to visit a shop and try to purchase age-restricted goods.
The test purchases saw underage customers attempt to buy fireworks - despite the law stating you must be 18 years old. One of the test purchases in Elswick saw the underage customer enquire about purchasing fireworks from a car wash that was licenced to sell them.
