Fire crews had to extinguish a car on fire on the M6 hard shoulder, causing miles of congestion.
Crews from Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to the scene on the M6 southbound carriageway, between junctions 21 and 20, near Warrington just after 9am on Friday (October 7). They found the car on fire on the hard shoulder, CheshireLive reports.
Two lanes were shut while the fire was extinguished. At its peak, there were delays of up to 50 minutes and congestion for more than six miles. The incident was cleared just before 11am.

Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service tweeted: "Firefighters from @LymmFS and @BirchwoodFS were called to extinguish a car on fire on the hard shoulder of the M6. They used a hose reel to dampen the flames and lanes one and two of the carriageway were closed while the incident was dealt with."
A spokesperson added: "Firefighters were called to extinguish a car on fire on the hard shoulder of the M6. The crews used a hose reel to dampen the flames and Cheshire Police and Highways Agency attended and closed lanes one and two of the carriageway."
