Firefighters raced to blaze ripping through Scots industrial plant as smoke billows into air

Fire crews are battling a blaze at an industrial plant in Fife

Firefighters raced to the scene at the Westfield Biomass Plant in Lochgelly at 7.17pm today after receving a number of calls about the incident.

Crews have been continuing to tackle the blaze, with two engines still at the scene several hours later

Images from the incident show dark plumes of smoke stemming from the unit's tower as thick smog billows across the region.

The cause of fire is currently unknown (Fife Jammer Locations)

It is currently unknown if there are any injuries, however Police Scotland have not been asked to support the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

The cause of fire also currently remains unknown.

The SFRS confirmed crews are currently in attendance.

A spokesperson said: "We received several calls reporting a fire at the Westfield Biomass Plant in Lochgelly, Fife, at 7.17pm on Tuesday, June 14.

"Operations control mobilised two appliances to the incident.

"Firefighters currently remain at the scene."

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the force have not been called to attend.
