A planned strike by firefighters in Scotland has been postponed after bosses tabled an improved pay offer. The emergency service was on the brink of its first walk-out in two decades following a dispute over wages and conditions.
Three separate ballots were held throughout the UK last month after members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) rejected a five per cent offer by the UK Government. Union officials last night postponed strike action after an improved offer of seven per cent backdated to July last year.
Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said: "This offer is testament to the power of collective action through the Fire Brigades Union. Last year we were offered an insulting two per cent. The employers have now revised their position.
