Firefighters tackling a blaze at a Perthshire home have tragically discovered a body.
Emergency services were called to the scene in the John Street area of Blairgowrie shortly before 5pm on Thursday.
Four engines and a height appliance were sent to extinguish the flames while police cordoned off nearby roads.
Hero crews managed to put out the fire around four hours later before making the grim discovery.
Police Scotland say that formal identification has yet to take place and that a joint investigation into the blaze remains ongoing.
A force spokesperson said: “Around 5pm on Thursday, police were called to the John Street area of Blairgowrie, following a report of a fire at a property.
“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and the body of a person was found within. Formal identification is yet to take place.
“A joint investigation remains ongoing, but there is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
Area Commander Jason Sharp is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for Perth & Kinross, Angus and Dundee.
He said: “We were alerted at 4.48pm on Thursday, June 22 to reports of a dwelling on fire at John Street, Blairgowrie. Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and one height vehicle to the scene.
“Firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a ground floor flat. Sadly, one person passed away at the scene.
“Our thoughts are very much with family, friends and wider community at this difficult time.”
