Firefighter taken to hospital after being injured responding to incident

A firefighter was taken to hospital after being injured while responding to an incident.

Fire crews were called to reports of a blaze at a property on Portland Street, Southport, on Wednesday, July 5, at around 9.58pm. Three fire engines attended as well as North West Ambulance service and Merseyside police.

At the scene, emergency services found a two-storey house had a microwave fire, that was put out before they arrived. While responding to the incident, a firefighter was injured and taken to hospital. He suffered bruising and was discharged later.

A Merseyside fire and rescue service spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) attended an incident on Portland Street, Southport, on 5 July. Crews were alerted at 9.58pm and on scene at 10.03pm.

"Three fire engines attended as well as North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Merseyside Police. Crews arrived to find a two-storey house with a microwave fire that was extinguished prior to their arrival.

"During the incident a firefighter was injured and taken to hospital by NWAS. The firefighter had sustained bruising and was discharged shortly after."
