Firebugs target North Ayrshire park as damage leads to appeal for information

An Ayrshire councillor is appealing for information after a park was damaged by firebugs.

Councillor Donald Reid of the Kilwinning ward in North Ayrshire has issued a plea for witnesses after a trampoline was set ablaze in McGavin Park.

The public trampoline is "beyond repair" and Cllr Reid has revealed Kilwinning Community Events (KCE) will need to secure funding to deal with aftermath of the incident.

Cllr Reid asked: "Were you near McGavin Park on Tuesday between 3.35pm and 3.45pm and witnessed fire-raising resulting in the destruction of the trampoline?

"We are looking for any information to support the park CCTV images we now have of the incident.

"Sadly, the trampoline is beyond repair and Kilwinning Community Events will need to secure funding to remove the item and consider a longer term plan.

"I’m aware from the video the park was busy and the public were quick to phone the fire service.

"We have good images of the two males, suggested 12 or 13 year olds involved, with black trousers and white shirts.

"One was wearing a black jacket with black rucksack. This boy had thick, heavy messy dark hair.

"The other had no jacket and a distinctive back pack.

"To help with timings, it was around the same time the two council vans left the park.

"Those in the park have confirmed this was prior to the academy end-of-day bell.

"All support in these enquiries would be appreciated by sending me or KCE a direct message on Facebook, or contacting 101."
