Edinburgh firefighters rushed to a blaze that has torn through a flat in a suburb on the outskirts of the city centre.

Three appliances have just left the scene on Oxgangs Road North where six crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service initially rushed to on Saturday morning, with four normal appliances and two height appliances being mobilised.

The alarm was raised at 11:14am on Saturday, October 1, although it is currently unclear if there were any casualties involved in the incident.

On user on Twitter reported seeing a "huge" fire earlier on Saturday morning, while several Lothian Buses have been diverted away from the scene.

A service alert affecting the 4, 27 and 400 reads: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Oxgangs Road North and Colinton Mains Drive and are instead diverted via Redford Road and Colinton Road in both directions until further notice."

A spokesperson for the SFRS confirmed three appliances remain at the scene, although no further information is available at this time.

They said: "Crews remain in attendance at a fire within a flat on Oxgangs Road North, Edinburgh. Three appliances are present and there were originally four and two height appliances mobilised.
