Images have been shared by Avon Fire and Rescue Service of the aftermath of a washing machine blaze at a home in Clevedon. Just after midday on Monday (February 28), the service was called to the fire at a domestic property on Old Church Road.
Photos show the property's utility room badly damaged by the fire, as well as the washing machine from which the fire originated that had been badly burnt. The walls of the room were blackened by smoke and charred, and the doorways were also badly damaged.
A short statement was released on social media by the Clevedon crew of Avon Fire and Rescue Service, confirming that the fire started in the washing machine. The service praised the occupants of the property for their "quick-thinking" in preventing it from spreading.

The tweet said: "Our crews have just attended a fire which started in a washing machine. Luckily located in a utility room with fire doors to the house closed.
"Quick thinking by occupants prevented further fire spread. Check your smoke alarms & never leave appliances unattended!"
A more complete statement from the service about the call said the fire had been extinguished by the time crews from Clevedon and Avonmouth arrived on the scene. It was also determined that the blaze had begun accidentally.
The statement said: "Crews from Clevedon and Avonmouth were called to reports of a fire in a domestic property at 12:06. In the two-storey residential property, firefighters found a small fire, out on arrival.
"The fire involved a washing machine which was removed by crews. A positive pressure ventilation fan was also used to clear smoke.
"The cause of incident was determined to have been accidental ignition."
