Emergency services are in attendance after a blaze broke out on the sixth floor of a tenement block in Edinburgh. Six Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the scene on Portobello High Street at around 6am on Tuesday, September 20.
Residents have been evacuated from the flats while work to extinguish the blaze remains ongoing. A police van was also pictured parked outside the building with another across the street. It has since been confirmed that one person was taken to hospital.
Edinburgh Live reports that a number of buses have been re-routed due to the incident. On the Lothian Buses website, it states that five services, the 26, 12, 49, 45 and 21 have all been diverted.
The service alert says: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Portobello High Street and are instead diverted via Sir Harry Lauder Road and Milton Road East in both directions until further notice."
A 48-year-old woman has now been arrested in connection with the blaze.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a fire within a property on Portobello High Street in Edinburgh around 5.40am on Tuesday, 20 September, 2022.
