Fire rips through abandoned Scottish hotel as crews battle blaze through night

Firefighters rushed to an abandoned Scottish hotel late on Thursday night as the building burst into flames.

As many as seven crews raced to the Lundin Links Hotel in Leven, Fife, around 8.30pm on Thursday, August 18, and were battling the blaze into the night.

Dramatic images from the scene show the inferno ravaging the whole building, as local residents were evacuated from their homes.

The Record report how orange flames had lit up the night sky, with smoke billowing from the Tudor-style building that had been boarded up for some time.

The blaze triggered a huge response from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, who used specialist equipment and height appliances to extinguish the blaze from above.

Residents were forced out of their homes due to the severity of the fire. (The Daily Record)

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.36pm to reports of a fire at a derelict building on Leven Road at Lundin Links.

"Operation control mobilised seven appliances, two height vehicles and two specialist resources to the scene. There are no reports of causalities and crews currently remain at the scene."

It was the second fire at a hotel building on Thursday in Scotland as guests and staff had to be evacuated The Popinjay Hotel in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, at 7.18am, due to a huge blaze.
