A fire near a railway line sent plumes of smoke billowing over part of Stockport this evening. The blaze broke out on an embankment next to the railway line off Greg Street in Reddish at around 5:30pm.
A fire engine was dispatched with firefighters remaining at the scene for several hours. It is not thought any rail services were affected as a result of the incident. However, plumes of smoke could be seen a number of residents living nearby.

In a statement issued earlier Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At approximately 5.30pm on Friday, 29 th April, one fire engine from Ashton-under-Lyne fire station attended reports of a fire on Greg Street, in Reddish, Stockport.
“The fire involves open land near to a railway embankment. Firefighters are using one hose reel to bring the fire under control and remain in attendance at this time.”
