Fire engulfs Hitler’s former Eagle’s Nest retreat in Germany

A fire engulfed the Eagle's Nest, Adolf Hitler's former retreat in the Bavarian Alps, on Saturday, 24 October. The historic site, known in German as the Kehlsteinhaus, sits atop the Obersalzberg mountain near Berchtesgaden and is difficult to access.

Around 200 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze, while German police said they had detained a suspect. Webcam footage shows flames and smoke rising from the site. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
