Fire engines rush to blaze on grounds of Queen's Balmoral Estate

The fire was spotted on the 50,000-acre Balmoral Estate

FIRE engines rushed to tackle a blaze at the Queen’s Balmoral estate on Saturday.

No injuries were reported after three appliances were despatched and the fire was brought under control.

According to the emergency services, the fire on the grounds was caused by an abandoned camp fire.

Workers on the estate shared a photograph of the damage caused by the fire on social media, revealing that the fire service had managed to save an osprey nest from the flames.

A spokesperson for the castle said: “Thanks very much to the crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who extinguished this forest fire yesterday which had been started by an abandoned camp fire.”

Meanwhile a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 3.19pm on Saturday, July 9 to reports of a ground fire within a forested area near blacksmith cottages, Glen Muick.

“Operations control immediately mobilised three fire appliances to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
