Almost 50 firefighters tackle 'well-developed' blaze at Fife paper mill

FIRE crews have been called to a large blaze at a paper mill in Fife.

Emergency services were called to the Sapphire Paper Mill on Glenwood Road, Leslie, shortly before 5.15am on Tuesday morning.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent 13 appliances to the scene, where huge amounts of smoke could be seen coming from the area

About 48 firefighters were sent to the scene and nine fire appliances were still there at 2pm on Tuesday.

An SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 5.14am on Tuesday, December 10 to reports of a building fire within the town of Leslie, Fife.

"Operations Control has since mobilised 13 fire appliances and several specialist resources to the town's Glenwood Road.

"Firefighters continue work to extinguish a well-developed fire within a large industrial building. There are no reported casualties."

The fire service has asked people to avoid the area where possible and advised those living nearby to keep windows and doors closed.
