Fire crews rush to Glasgow city centre after bus catches on fire on Renfield Street

A bus has burst into flames on a busy street in the city centre.

Emergency services raced to the fire on Renfield Street shortly after 12:15pm on Saturday, April 23.

The incident is ongoing, with motorists being urged to find an alternative route.

Two fire appliances are at the scene and Renfield Street is closed between Bath Street and West Regent Street.

West Regent Street is also closed between Renfield Street and West Nile Street

Fire crews raced to the scene after receiving reports of a bus engulfed in flames at 12.15pm today (Twitter/ @94TMW)

Dramatic footage from the scene shows smoke and flames billowing from the vehicle in the city centre.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We were alerted at 12.15pm on Saturday, April 23 to reports of a fire affecting a bus on Renfield Street.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene and they remain in attendance."

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed officers were in attendance to assist with traffic management.

A statement from Traffcom read: "Due to an earlier vehicle fire Renfield Street is closed between Bath Street and West Regent Street.

"West Regent Street is also closed between Renfield Street and West Nile Street."
